Family Portrait - Aptos, California

I went to WPPI Road Show yesterday, here in Sac... I must've taken 10 pages of notes, and there was so much information to absorb that my mind is reeling! The topics covered were more on the marketing side, which I'm probably not quite ready for, I must admit... But I hope that stuff sticks in my poor old brain long enough for me to apply it when I do need it!

We were in lovely Aptos a couple of weeks ago for some much needed beach time (dude, I loooove the beach!), and I got to shoot some family portraits for some friends of ours... It was admittedly one of most challenging sessions to date; the wind was kickin', it was cold, and the kids were my youngest subjects yet. BUT, they are a beautiful family and it would probably be hard to get a bad photo of any of them! Despite the weather and the kids being off their schedules a bit, I (think) I was able to capture some lovely and tender images :)

Sacramento Children's Portrait Photographer - The Fleming Crew

Hey there! I cannot believe summer is almost over! We've had some fun family time... just got back from a little beach vacay (I LOVE the beach!). There are still so many things I want to do before school starts for my kiddos! Claire (my wonderful daughter) and I decided we need to have a Fun Day here in Sac to finish the summer off right. We're going to have fun from dawn 'til dusk, start the day off with some chocolate chip pancakes and end it with a drive-in movie :)

Back in the beginning of summer, I had the extreme pleasure of shooting this rockin' group of kids... They were such good sports... and awesome at looking cool for the camera! Love 'em!

Garcia Family- Sacramento Family Portrait Photographer

It was a lovely evening in Old Sacramento... The sun was just beginning to set... I met with one of my favorite families, the Garcia's. What a pleasure to shoot this fun foursome! Little Elias pretended he wasn't into having his picture taken for a while, but the camera loved him and I think he just gave into it after awhile! Geez, what a looker! And Maya.... I love capturing girls at the age before everything "really starts to happen". It's just precious to know you are getting a lasting reminder of that "little girl". It's bittersweet to me. And this adorable thing has melted my heart with her smile since the day I met her. What can I say? I'm a sucker. Thank you, Adele and Chuy, for letting me be your paparazzi for a bit... and for loving each other and your kids the way you do!

Afternoon at the park with L...

This adorable little guy was my very first session... and still one of my faves! He wanted absolutely nothing to do with me and every time I got close with my camera, he said "no!" and ran away! But I managed to capture his personality (and gorgeous hair!) despite his efforts! The bubbles helped :)

Hello, August!

Waiting for the movie to start...
Sean's expression here cracks me up!
Oh my gosh... Do I have the coolest, most adorable husband or what?

I love that the wind kicked Claire's skirt up at just the right moment!

"The hard is what makes it great"...Great quote from "A League of Their Own" (caught it on TV last night... it's one of those movies that I happen across every now and again, and somehow I keep watching even if it's half over). It's a good line... Good one to remember on my photographic quest for greatness :)

So, Saturday I dragged my family around Sacramento, scouting out some locations for upcoming sessions, and Claire was a total trooper acting as my model all afternoon. I actually ended up getting some cute shots of all my favorite people (please see images above), and found some cool photography spots along the way. Later that evening we packed some blankets, pillows, and snacks and headed to the drive-in theater! My kids had never been, so it was fun to see them experience something that I look back on fondly from my own childhood. I think I saw Star Wars at the drive-in, but I'm not sure since I was probably like 4 years old. When did it come out? '76? Anyway, all in all it's been a lovely little family weekend... I may have to mix in a Costco trip before it's over, though! The best thing, and a super way to begin the month of August, is I get to do a family shoot with some awesome friends this evening! I always get butterflies in my stomach before a session.... But so excited!
